Elliot Nicely (born Elliot Sandon Nicely, July 4, 1976, Sandusky, Ohio, U.S.A.), American secondary school teacher and haiku and tanka poet. He has published his work in leading haiku and poetry journals since 2006 and been selected for inclusion in five Red Moon anthologies (2007, 2011, 2016, 2018, and 2021), eight of Robert Epstein’s anthologies of social- and wellness-issue haiku, and two topical (flowers, birds) chapbook anthologies from Stanford Forrester’s Bottle Rockets Press, as well as many other collections of local Ohio and topical poetry. A haiku of Nicely’s was shortlisted for the Touchstone Awards for Individual Poems in 2016, and his writing was featured in David G. Lanoue’s Write Like Issa: A Haiku How-to and the Red Moon Press’s New Resonance series (both in 2017). His haiku and senryu chapbooks appeared in 2013, 2017, and 2023. He served on the Haiku North America 2023 Programming Committee; he resides in Lakewood, Ohio.
