Jay Friedenberg (born Jay Daniels Friedenberg, October 28, 1966, New York City, U.S.A.), professor of psychology and department chair at Manhattan College, research scientist in the field of empirical aesthetics, visual artist, and poet. Friedenberg’s poetry has appeared in numerous print and online journals and has won recognition in U.S., British, Irish, Japanese, and Polish haiku contests. He has authored four books of haiku: One Rock Out of Place: A Haiku Collection (2013), Elemental (2016), Poems from the Front: A Haiku History of the Second World War (2018), and Sci-Ku: Explorations into the Poetry of Science (2020); and edited The Unexpected Weight: The Haiku Society of America Mentorship Program Anthology 2021. A member of the Spring Street Haiku Group that meets monthly in New York City, he served as associate editor of the Haiku Society of America journal Frogpond for two years and society president from 2020 to 2022. Friedenberg resides in Sleepy Hollow, New York.
