Joanna Ashwell, 2022

Joanna Ashwell (born 1972 in the United Kingdom), British poet, former administrator and tutor, currently self-employed as a writer and a spiritual worker. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature and a postgraduate degree in creative writing. Ashwell has published four collections of poetry, including Between Moonlight (2006, haiku), Every Star, Threads and Tanka Strings (2023), and River Lanterns (2023, cherita). Her honors include the Haiku Presence Award (Runner-up, 2001), the BHS David Cobb Haiku Award (Winner, 2020, and Runner-up 2021) as well as recognition in other competitions, including Stills The Haiku Award, the Time Haiku Award, the Autumn Moon Contest, the Bulgarian Cherry Blossom competition, and the Golden Haiku Awards. A haiku of hers was shortlisted in the 2020 Touchstone Awards and a tanka won an Honorable Mention in the San Francisco Contest in 2021. She has been listed on Krzysztof Kokot’s “The European Top 100 most creative haiku authors” each year since 2019. Ashwell serves on the selection team for the Canadian tanka journal Gusts. She resides in County Durham, England.
