Kai Nieminen (born May 11, 1950, Helsinki, Finland). Poet and translator who has published 18 poetry books, several of which include haiku and tanka. Nieminen’s Japanese solo haikai sequence フィンランドの四季 (Finrando no shiki; The Four Seasons in Finland) was published in Ginyū (October 2010). His translations include the complete travel diaries of Matsuo Bashō and a comprehensive selection of Bashō’s haibun, haiku, and renga sequences. Nieminen has also edited and translated works of Taneda Santōka for a number of publications. Since 1980 he has resided in Loviisa, on the southern coast of Finland.
