Robert Novak (born Robert Lee Novak, September 4, 1933, Richland County, Illinois, U.S.A.; died July 13, 2006, Fort Wayne, Indiana; sometimes used the nom de plume A.U. Contraire). American university professor, poet, and editor. Novak was a professor of English literature at Indiana University in Fort Wayne, a branch of Purdue University. He was the founding editor of The Windless Orchard, a quarterly poetry journal that appeared from 1970 to 1999; each issue included several pages of haiku. He also edited and published two books: Writing Haiku from Photographs and Haiku from the Windless Orchard (both 1977). Novak last resided in Fort Wayne, Ind.
