Stephen Bailey (born Stephen Lawrence Bailey, September 17, 1949, Paparoa, New Zealand; used haigō Hansha Teki until 2023), retired from a career in information technology, has been publishing haiku, senryu, sequences, and haibun since 2012, almost exclusively in online journals. Since 2017, pushing against possible limitations of haiku written in one to four lines, he has been composing paralleled haiku for the richer resonances that they can generate. Many of these “parallels,” are published in his For the Time Being (2023). Bailey’s work has been anthologized in Bruce Ross’s, A Vast Sky (2015); Kala Ramesh’s Naad Anunaad (2016); Lee Gurga and Scott Metz’s Haiku 2016 and Haiku 2021; and Jim Kacian and Julie Warther’s A New Resonance 11 (2019) among others. Bailey is cofounder and co-owner (with Don Baird) of The Living Haiku Anthology, Living Senryu Anthology, and the now defunct Under the Bashō haiku journal. He has resided in Ōtaki on New Zealand’s Kāpiti Coast since 2016.
