Every year since 1992 the Museum of Haiku Literature in Tokyo has given the British Haiku Society an annual donation to support an award for the best poem of each quarterly issue of the BHS journal, Blithe Spirit. The editor names a different selector for each issue. Winning poets receive a £50 prize and a certificate, and the chosen haiku is featured in the following issue.
