José Luis Vicent (full name: José Luis Vicent Barceló; born September 25, 1958, Valencia, Spain; haigō: Barlo), nurse (with a degree in the philosophy and science of education), philosopher, and haiku poet. He participated in meetings of the haiku circle in Valencia and was one of the eight poets included in their members’ anthology, Tertulias de haiku (2007; Haiku Circle). Very active in internet forums, he specializes in the training of haiku poets. In 2011 he was included with four other poets in the joint collection El camino del viento (The Way of the Wind). Vicent serves on the management team of El Rincón del Haiku website and for several years produced a popular series of haiku commentaries and reflections titled Rastros de caracol (Snail Tracks). He resides in Valencia.

Josu Jimenez Maia (born January 3, 1967, Pamplona-Iruñea, Navarre, Basque Country), short-story writer and haiku poet. He has won several awards for his short stories in Basque and published his haiku in Basque poetry magazines including Hatsa, Maiatz, and Constantes Vitales. He has published four volumes of poetry, two of which are haiku books: Gerezi garaiko haikuak (2011; Cherry-time Haiku) and Orbel azpiko haikuak ( 2013; Haiku Under the Leaves). Resides in Berriozar, Navarre, Basque Country

Juan Kruz Igerabide (full name Juan Kruz Igerabide Sarasola, born March 24, 1956, Aduna, Gizpuzkoa, Basque Country, Spain), holds a PhD in Basque philology, lectures at the EHU-University of the Basque Country, and carries out research in the field of children's literature. Besides books of poetry and novels for teenagers, Igerabide has published several books of haiku for children and young people. Resides in Aduna (the city), Basque Country.

María Victoria Porras (full name María Victoria Porras Martínez; married name Pérez, born August 25, 1969, Murcia, Spain; haigō: Mavi), poet and haiku theorist, a long-time contributor to El Rincón del Haiku, the pioneering digital Spanish-language haiku magazine. She has lectured at the University of Castilla la Mancha on “Haiku and the Extinction of the Conventional Self” and at the Haijin Association of Albacete (AGHA) on “The Use of Verb Tenses in Haiku.” Coauthor with Juan Francisco Pérez of the book A la Intemperie (2006; In the Open). Resides in Llano de Brujas (Murcia), Spain.

Mercedes Pérez (full name Mercedes Pérez Pérez, born February 27, 1960, Madrid, Spain; haigō: kotori), nursing care technician who is also professionally involved in organic agriculture, energy therapies, and management of a bookstore. Cofounder in 2010 of the online Makoto School of Haiku, together with Vicente Haya, Félix Arce, and Manuel Díez Orzas. She edits El reflejo de Uzume (The Reflection of Uzume), a haiku blog. Pérez’s haiku have won prizes in contests in Spain and Japan, and her work has been included in many anthologies. Her second haiku collection, Como si nada (As if nothing) was published in 2016. She resides in El Escorial (Madrid).
