The Anita Sadler Weiss Memorial Haiku Awards, sponsored by the Haiku Poets of Central Maryland, was an annual poetry competition founded in August 2004 in memory of Baltimore-based haiku poet and teacher Anita Sadler Weiss. The first contest was held in 2005 and, following a hiatus in 2012, was held again in 2013 but then discontinued when the HPCM disbanded.

Established in 1976, the Haiku Society of America’s Harold G. Henderson Haiku Awards have been given out each year for the best English-language haiku submitted to the contest. As one of the oldest haiku contests in the West and open to the public, the Henderson Awards enjoy pride of place among English-language haiku contests.

The Society of Classical Poets, which describes itself as “a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 2012 as a group of poets dedicated to the revival and proliferation of good, new poetry,” inaugurated an online haiku competition in 2020. Conducted blog-style on the SCP website, the annual competitions have attracted submissions from hundreds of haiku poets from around the world and with a wide range of experience.
