Lee Gurga
Lee Gurga (born LeRoy Steven Gurga, July 28, 1949, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.), American poet, editor, and essayist. President of the Haiku Society of America (1997), and editor of the journal Modern Haiku (2002–2006) and Modern Haiku Press (2006– ). His collections of haiku, the writers’ manual Haiku: A Poet’s Guide, and the anthologies of 21st century haiku have taken top prizes in the Haiku Society of America and Haiku Foundation book competitions. Personal awards include an Illinois Arts Council Poetry Fellowship and the Japan-America Society of Chicago’s Cultural Achievement Award. Lives in Piatt County, Illinois.
